athens, greece - TRT to investigate if Greek Eurovision song refers to 'Pontus Greek Genocide', causing controversy in Athens.

Controversy Over Greek Eurovision Song

TRT's announcement to investigate if the Greek Eurovision song 'Asteromata' refers to the 'Pontus Greek Genocide' has sparked a crisis in Athens. The singer, Klavdia Papadopoulou, stated in an interview with the Greek state television ERT that the song is about displacement and refugee experiences, drawing from her own family history of being forced to migrate. However, the lyrics of the song do not directly reference the 'Pontus Greek Genocide'. 'Asteromata', a term no longer in use, used to describe 'beautiful-eyed women' among Greeks living in the Izmir region before the 1922 Greco-Turkish War.
