bogota, colombia - Colombian police arrest infamous drug lord Carlos Lehder, known for Medellin cartel involvement in drug trafficking to the US and Europe.

Carlos Lehder Arrested in Colombia

Carlos Lehder, former leader of the notorious Medellin cartel, was arrested in Bogota after arriving on a KLM flight from Frankfurt via Schiphol.

Lehder, once a major cocaine supplier to the US and Europe alongside Pablo Escobar, underestimated the risk of arrest in Colombia despite previous US imprisonment.

Lehder's drug empire extended to the Bahamas, where drug transports were coordinated, while he was described as highly intelligent and politically engaged.

The Medellin cartel, led by Lehder and Escobar, facilitated drug smuggling through the Netherlands to other European countries, making Amsterdam a major hub.
