Chinese Spy Arrested in Leipzig, Germany
leipzig - German police have arrested a Chinese spy in Leipzig. The spy, Yaqi X., was found to be passing sensitive documents containing confidential aviation data to another spy from the People's Republic. The arrest was announced today by the Attorney General.
According to German authorities in Karlsruhe, Yaqi X. was employed at a company operating at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Between August 2023 and February of this year, she was transmitting sensitive information to another employee of a Chinese secret service.
The information shared included details on the transportation of weapons and military equipment, as well as connections of employees from German arms companies. Yaqi X. passed on flight data, passenger information, and specifics of the cargo to her Chinese counterpart.
In Germany, foreign espionage carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison. As the economic powerhouse in the EU and a major arms producer, the Federal Republic is at the forefront of European countries being spied on by China and Russia.
Beijing sides with Moscow in the bloody conflict that the Kremlin is waging against neighboring Ukraine, a war that has claimed the lives of over a hundred thousand people. Germany is by far the largest supplier of weapons to Kiev in Europe.
