Chaotic New Year's Eve in Germany: 5 dead, 33 injured, 400 arrested

Germany entered the new year with chaos and turmoil as traditional celebrations turned violent in many public spaces. In the capital city of Berlin, fireworks were not only used for entertainment but also for attacks.
Rebels who attacked officers deployed for emergency response sparked clashes with the police. Four people were reported dead and 30 police officers, along with one firefighter, were injured in the clashes.
Authorities deployed additional police forces in the capital to prevent further violent acts. Following the clashes, officials announced that 400 individuals had been arrested.
The violence was not limited to Berlin alone. In the eastern city of Paderborn in the North Rhine-Westphalia state, a homemade firework exploded prematurely, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old individual. Police suggested that the premature explosion was caused by the individual who died.
The Cologne police reported that two officers were injured after fireworks were thrown at emergency service workers. In the city of Leipzig, it was reported that around 50 individuals attacked firefighters and police officers.
In the small western town of Neuwied, police highlighted that fireworks were used to set a depot on fire around 01:00 local time. Neuwied police stated that a warehouse full of timber was found completely engulfed in flames, and the fire was brought under control.
The incidents on New Year's Eve were condemned by German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, who stated that police were swiftly deployed to the scenes of the incidents and were actively combating the perpetrators. Faeser expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for all injured police officers and promised that all culprits would be "severely prosecuted and punished."
