Shark Attack on Canadian Tourist
A Canadian tourist, aged 55, was attacked by a shark while wading in shallow waters near the coast of the Turks and Caicos Islands. The victim reportedly tried to make contact with the shark to take a photo, resulting in the shark biting off both her hands. Her husband bravely tried to fend off the shark, but the predator persisted.
Shocking images show the woman returning to the beach with cloth around her arms to stop the bleeding. The shark, estimated to be over 1.8 meters long, is of an unknown species, with some speculating it could be a bull shark.
Additionally, a video has surfaced showing a shark thrashing in shallow waters near a beachfront villa. Witnesses noted the shark's presence for up to forty minutes after the attack.
Authorities have advised the public to stay out of the ocean until further notice. The victim is receiving medical treatment in Canada, with one hand amputated at the wrist and the other at mid-forearm.
Shark attacks in the waters around the Turks and Caicos Islands are rare. According to the International Shark Attack File (ISAF) at the Florida Museum of Natural History, only one unprovoked non-fatal attack was reported last year. However, two years ago, an American woman had her foot bitten off by a shark while snorkeling.
