chester - The Chester Zoo in Britain has released a large number of bird-eating spiders. The 'great raft spider', as big as a hand, was nearly extinct, but the zoo has helped over 10,000 female spiders survive.
Thousands of spiders have been released in recent years. Due to the size of the spider, they may come across as intimidating, but the raft spider is not harmful.
Instead of weaving a web, the raft spiders hunt their prey. Fifteen years ago, the spider species was nearly extinct, but thanks to the zoo's efforts, this is no longer the case.
