British woman survives rare cancer by having eight organs removed: 'Best Christmas gift I could ever wish for'
united kingdom - Faye Louise, 39, underwent a complex surgery to remove eight organs after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and has now returned to work.
British woman Faye Louise, aged 39, faced a devastating blow when she was diagnosed with cancer. She had to undergo a complex operation where eight of her organs were removed. In 2023, doctors discovered a cyst on Louise's ovaries, which turned out to be pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), a rare form of peritoneal cancer. The cancer cells had spread throughout her body, necessitating a drastic intervention. Her appendix, ovaries, uterus, spleen, gallbladder, fallopian tubes, belly button, omentum, and a portion of her liver had to be removed.
The operation was successful. 'There are no signs of illness anymore, and that is the best Christmas gift I could ever wish for,' Louise told BBC Radio Sussex. She has already returned to work as a flight coordinator at London Gatwick Airport. 'The job requires a lot of physical effort, but I love aviation, and I am happy to be working again.'
Every November, Louise has to go back to the hospital for check-ups. 'The results of the scans can either enrich or ruin my Christmas. But you just have to keep looking forward and never give up. Some days, I feel very desperate, but I am getting better at staying positive.' Louise also fundraises for cancer research. Recently, she participated in a charity running event in Brighton and Hove.
