British Restaurant Owner Uses Cheese with Tracker to Catch Persistent Cheese Thief
harrogate - A British restaurant owner, David Straker, took matters into his own hands by placing a tracker in a piece of cheese to catch a persistent cheese thief who was stealing his dairy products.
After his freshly delivered dairy products were stolen, the 56-year-old British restaurant owner, David Straker, decided to take action. He wanted to trace the thief and placed a tracker in a piece of cheese, acting as bait.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, Straker saw how thieves were stealing dairy products from his restaurant just minutes after delivery. To track down the thieves (and the loot), Straker decided to use a tracker. He placed an AirTag in a piece of brie and left it outside.
The thief took the bait. Straker was able to track the location of the stolen piece of cheese using his smartphone for weeks. He waited for the right time to report the cheese thief to the police, but the tracker's location kept changing.
"I think it's been traveling in a van," he said. "It's been traveling so much that I decided to wait until it stopped moving before reporting it to the police. It's also our busiest time of the year, and I simply haven't had the time to go to the police station and make a statement. I will do that this week and present my evidence," said the restaurant owner.
It remains unclear who the cheese thief is and whether they will be caught soon. Straker hopes that such thefts will not occur again. "The costs of our food are rising, and running a business is becoming increasingly challenging. Such small things contribute to shrinking our margins," he told Daily Mail.
