brazil - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has approved a law banning the use of mobile phones in primary and middle schools.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has approved a law banning the use of mobile phones in primary and middle schools. The law, which was passed in Congress, will prohibit the use of cell phones during both classes and breaks. Lula da Silva stated that the law was "absolutely" necessary and similar practices have been implemented in other countries as well.
Since taking office, Lula da Silva has warned ministers and other officials not to use phones in the meetings, emphasizing that cell phones cause distraction.
According to a survey conducted by Locomotiva Institute and QuestionPro in October 2024, 82% of Brazilian parents support the ban on mobile phones in schools.
With the new regulations, cell phones in schools can only be used for pedagogical purposes and under the supervision of teachers.
Taking into consideration the negative effects on the health and education of children and young people, the regulation to ban the use of mobile phones in primary and middle schools was approved in Congress on December 20, 2024.
