Brad Pitt used as cover by fraudsters to scam victims out of thousands of euros

spain - Spanish police have arrested five individuals posing as Brad Pitt online and defrauding two women of €325,000. This is not an isolated incident, as the Hollywood star's identity has been previously exploited by criminals to extort money from unsuspecting victims.

Spanish police have arrested five individuals who impersonated Brad Pitt on a fan website, convincing two women that they were in a relationship with the actor. The scammers enticed the victims to invest in non-existent projects, resulting in losses of €175,000 and €150,000 respectively.

The fraudsters meticulously studied the victims' social media profiles to exploit their vulnerabilities and loneliness. They used email and WhatsApp to promise romantic relationships with the women. Upon searching the suspects' homes, the police found a diary containing the script used to deceive the victims.

Brad Pitt's persona has proven to be an attractive facade for criminals. In a previous case, a woman in Granada believed she was engaged to Pitt and would star in a film with him, leading to payments totaling €35,000 before she realized she was being deceived.

In 2020, a victim of Pitt impersonation attempted to sue the actor for not doing enough to protect fans from identity theft, after losing €35,000 to a fraudster. Despite the lawsuit being dismissed, the plaintiff continued to seek Pitt's acknowledgment of the situation.

An insider described the incidents as sad examples of online scams and emphasized that Brad Pitt is not directly involved. The hope is that others can learn from these unfortunate cases.
