In the state of Florida, a 7-year-old boy was seriously injured while attending a Christmas show with his family. According to his mother speaking to NBC News, a drone fell from the sky during the event, hitting the boy in the chest.
The Orlando Fire Department confirmed that a person had to be taken to the hospital due to "technical issues" during the Holiday Drone Show at Lake Eola Park, where about 25,000 visitors were in attendance.
The Federal Aviation Administration, investigating the incident, stated that several small drones collided with each other, leading to one falling from the sky. This was captured in footage circulating on social media.
The boy was rushed to the emergency room. His mother, Adriana Edgerton, mentioned that he had to undergo heart surgery. No one else was injured in the incident.
The incident occurred at 6:45 p.m. The Christmas show, lasting about fifteen minutes, was scheduled to take place again at 8:00 p.m. but was canceled. Drone shows are required to meet conditions imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration, which is currently investigating how the mishap occurred.
The show was organized by the company Sky Elements Drones, who expressed their wishes for the victim's speedy recovery in a statement. "The safety of the public is our top priority," they further stated.
