la paz - Former Bolivian president Evo Morales (2006-2019) claims his car was targeted in an attack in Cochabamba.

Former Bolivian president Evo Morales stated that his car was hit by fourteen bullets in an attack in Cochabamba, a city in the central part of the country. Morales said, "Masked men shot at the car. It was planned, with the intention to kill Evo."

The Bolivian government denies any involvement in the alleged attack and says it is under investigation.

The situation in Bolivia is tense, with Morales' supporters blocking roads for two weeks in protest against legal proceedings orchestrated by the government of Morales' political rival Luis Arce.

Morales is facing investigations for charges including "rape, human trafficking, and smuggling" in relation to an alleged relationship with a 15-year-old girl with whom he had a daughter in 2016. His lawyers claim the case was closed in 2020. Morales dismisses the accusations as "lies".

This past weekend, President Arce appointed new military leaders to restore order in the country. In June, a coup attempt by high-ranking military officials failed, as the coup plotters, including armored vehicles, had taken over the square in front of the national palace in La Paz.
