Blue Ghost Spacecraft Reveals Moon's Surface
During its sixteen-day orbit around the moon, Blue Ghost's camera captured close-up shots of the moon's backside and southern pole, showcasing a rocky terrain with impact craters.
Joseph Marlin, Deputy Chief Engineer of Blue Ghost, expressed awe at the surreal images, emphasizing the inspiration drawn from witnessing the moon's features up close. The mission, launched on January 15, aims to enhance the Artemis program for future human moon missions.
On March 2, Blue Ghost will attempt a landing near Mons Latreille, an ancient volcanic structure on the moon's eastern side facing Earth. The spacecraft is expected to witness a solar eclipse on March 14 and capture the 'moonset' on March 16.
