Officials must purchase these gifts from their respective leaders at market value in order to retain them. Otherwise, the gifts are transferred to the National Archives. As per the notification from the US State Department, the $20,000 diamond is kept at the East Wing of the White House for official use, while other gifts given to the President and First Lady have been sent to the National Archives.
