Berlin Considers Sending German Troops to Ukraine in Future
berlin - Germany is considering sending troops to Ukraine in case of a possible ceasefire with the Russian aggressor. Paris and London are also contemplating similar actions.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has raised the possibility of providing security guarantees for Ukraine, NATO membership, and international presence to secure a ceasefire.
European powers, including Berlin, Paris, and London, are meeting to establish a united front before US President Donald Trump makes decisions on Ukraine and NATO.
French President Emmanuel Macron previously suggested deploying troops to Ukraine, while Brussels emphasized the EU's potential role in a ceasefire.
However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains cautious due to historical sensitivities surrounding sending troops to a former Soviet country. Scholz, leading a left-leaning minority government, aims to prioritize peace in the midst of upcoming elections.
Scholz later clarified that sending troops to Ukraine is currently off the table. The situation's future remains uncertain, especially with the potential impact of diplomatic pressure from Trump.
The German Foreign Ministry acknowledged Putin's reluctance to negotiate. Scholz recently engaged with Putin and visited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.
