houthalen-helchteren, limburg, belgium - Belgian couple Eduard Cuyvers (101) and Angeline Haseldonckx (99) have been married since 1943, making them the longest married couple in Europe.
Belgian Couple Sets European Record
The Belgian couple Eduard Cuyvers (101) and Angeline Haseldonckx (99), married since January 30, 1943, have been recognized as the longest married couple in Europe, according to the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).
Cuyvers and Haseldonckx, residing in Houthalen-Helchteren in the Belgian province of Limburg, were previously known as the fourth longest married couple in Europe. Recent research from English and French data revealed that out of the three longer married couples, one partner had passed away. This makes Cuyvers and Haseldonckx the longest married couple in Europe since January 11.
When asked about the secret to their successful 82-year long marriage, Haseldonckx mentioned in a Belgian TV interview two years ago that there isn't a specific secret. She humorously added, "But there's a lid for every pot. Are we still in love? Absolutely! We can't be without each other. And I've never kicked him out."
The ESO collaborates with volunteers in each country to locate supercentenarians, individuals aged 110 years or older.
