Beertje Paddington has officially become a citizen of the United Kingdom and received an official passport for the latest film, set to be released in January 2025 in Dutch cinemas. Rob Silva, co-producer of the third film in the latest series, confirmed to Radio Times that the British Home Office granted the passport. In the passport, Paddington, the fictional bear born in Peru, is actually listed as a 'bear'. 'You wouldn't think the Home Office has a sense of humor,' Silva said.
He previously wrote to the Home Office asking if he could get a replica passport for the bear. 'They actually gave Paddington an official passport. There is only one,' the producer said, pleasantly surprised.
In the latest film, 'Paddington in Peru', the bear returns to his homeland to visit his Aunt Lucy. Upon arriving at the retirement home for bears where she lives, Paddington discovers that Lucy has disappeared during a scientific mission. Thus begins a quest to find his aunt, aided by a guitar-playing nun and an adventurous sailor.
