Following 237 days of coalition negotiations, Bart De Wever, the leader of the Flemish nationalist N-VA party, has been appointed as Belgium's new Prime Minister, succeeding Alexander de Croo. De Wever took the oath in front of King Philippe and will represent the country at an informal European Union (EU) summit in Brussels today.
The coalition partners include the liberal Francophone party 'MR', the centrist Francophone 'Les Engages', the Flemish socialist 'Vooruit', and the Christian democrat 'CD&V'.
Prior to the formation of the government, De Wever's administration faced protests due to the austerity measures announced to address the country's budget deficit.
