Avoid Utrecht Region on Sunday due to A2 Closure, Rijkswaterstaat Advises
utrecht - Rijkswaterstaat has recommended avoiding the Utrecht region on Sunday to prevent extra travel time due to the closure of the A2 highway from Utrecht towards Den Bosch. The closure is expected to last until Monday morning.
Rijkswaterstaat advised road users to avoid the Utrecht region on Sunday due to the closure of the A2 highway from Utrecht towards Den Bosch. The closure, from Oudenrijn interchange to Everdingen interchange, will last until Monday morning at 5:00. This marks the final weekend of the highway closure for maintenance work. Recent weekend closures of the A2 have resulted in significant traffic jams.
Despite previous warnings to avoid the Utrecht roads this weekend, there was still heavy traffic on Saturday. The delays reportedly decreased later in the evening, thanks to traffic management measures such as longer traffic lights and traffic wardens improving traffic flow.
"On Sunday, September 22, closures will remain in place on both the A2 towards Den Bosch and the A1 towards Apeldoorn. Road users should anticipate delays of at least 30 minutes," Rijkswaterstaat stated. Besides advising to avoid the Utrecht region, Rijkswaterstaat also urged road users not to seek alternative routes in case of highway congestion but to follow the diversion signs. Local drivers were advised to postpone their trips or opt for public transport or cycling instead.
