canberra - Australian indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe confronted King Charles during his visit to the parliament in Canberra, demanding the return of their stolen land.

Australian indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe expressed her discontent towards King Charles during his visit to the parliament in Canberra on Monday. After Charles's speech, Thorpe shouted, 'Give us our land back, give back what you have stolen from us.' Thorpe further exclaimed multiple times to Charles, 'This is not your land, you are not my king.' The independent politician, who was escorted away during her verbal attack, also addressed the genocide committed by European colonizers.

Australia was under British colonial rule for more than a hundred years. During that time, thousands of Aboriginals were killed, and entire communities were displaced. The country gained independence in 1901 but never became a full republic. King Charles currently serves as the head of state.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have been in Australia since Friday, marking Charles's first visit since his coronation. This trip is also the first visit by a reigning British monarch to Australia since 2011. The royal couple will spend a total of nine days in Australia and Samoa.
