Art collector eats banana worth nearly 6 million euros
new york - A wealthy art collector, who paid almost 6 million euros for a piece of art consisting of a banana duct-taped to a wall, has reportedly eaten the banana.
A wealthy art collector who recently spent nearly 6 million euros on a piece of art featuring a banana duct-taped to a wall, has eaten what is believed to be the most expensive banana on Friday.
The banana was part of the world-famous artwork 'Comedian' created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. The banana, which was sold a few days ago for 6.2 million dollars (around 5.8 million euros), was reportedly eaten by the collector just before Sotheby's auctioned it off for millions.
Some find it unfair. However, the collector announced plans to order 100,000 bananas and give them away for free to make amends. The fruit seller, whom the collector bought the original banana from for 25 cents, mentioned practical difficulties in handling such a large order.
Shah Alam, a 74-year-old man from Bangladesh working at the fruit stand, expressed concerns about the costs and logistics of obtaining and distributing such a large quantity of bananas. The offer to distribute free bananas has not been met with much enthusiasm so far.
The fruit stall owner, Mohammad R. Islam, stated that he would share the profit from the potential sale among his employees. However, he mentioned no one has contacted him for such a large-scale purchase yet.
