Armenia Approves EU Accession Process

Armenia's Cabinet of Ministers has approved a draft decision regarding the initiation of the EU membership process.
During the Cabinet meeting, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan expressed their positive stance towards the draft, emphasizing that it reflects the intensive and comprehensive cooperation between Armenia and the EU in recent years in political, economic, and security fields.
Mirzoyan stated, 'Armenia and the EU have very intensive and dynamic relations that cover various sectors. The EU has clearly shown political support for Armenia's democracy on several occasions.'
He also highlighted the EU's support for deploying a civil observation mission in Armenia and strengthening the country's economy.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan urged caution in response to societal expectations regarding EU membership.
Pashinyan stated, 'The approval of the draft decision does not mean Armenia joining the EU. As stipulated in the Constitution, such a decision can only be made through a referendum.'
He also emphasized the need to initiate discussions on developing a roadmap that reflects mutual visions with the EU, saying, 'There is no urgent step that Armenia can take before the roadmap negotiations begin.'
