Apple Agrees to Pay $95 Million in Siri Privacy Lawsuit Settlement
california, united states - Apple has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that its voice assistant technology Siri violated user privacy, despite denying the accusations, by agreeing to pay $95 million.
Apple has reached a settlement in a class-action lawsuit that claimed Siri, the voice assistant technology, violated user privacy by being activated unintentionally and sharing recorded conversations with third parties without users' consent. The settlement, which needs approval from Judge Jeffrey White of the Northern District of California, was filed in a federal court in Oakland.
Despite denying the allegations, Apple has agreed to pay $95 million as part of the settlement. If approved, users of Siri-enabled devices could receive up to $20 per device.
The settlement will cover users in the United States who owned Siri-enabled iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, HomePod, iPod touch, or Apple TV between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024.
The voice assistant technology Siri was first introduced with the iPhone 4S models in 2011. The 'Hey Siri' feature, which allows users to activate Siri hands-free, was introduced in 2014.
