AP Files Lawsuit Over Denial of Access
Persbureau AP has taken legal action against the denial of access to press events of Donald Trump. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Washington D.C., argues that the refusal of access violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech and press freedom.
The complaint states, "The press and all individuals in the United States have the right to choose their own words and should not be punished by the government for doing so."
The White House denied AP journalists access because the news agency refused to comply with Trump's directive to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. AP stated that it will not make this change in its articles, as the Gulf of Mexico has been known by that name for over 400 years and its style guide instructs reporters to use names and designations that are easily recognizable to a global audience.
