new york - Aleksej Navalny, the prominent Russian Kremlin critic, wrote in his posthumous memoir that he believed he would die in prison. The memoir is set to be published on October 22.

In his posthumous memoir set to be published on October 22, Aleksej Navalny, the well-known Russian Kremlin critic and key political opponent of President Vladimir Putin, expressed his belief that he would spend the rest of his life in prison and die there.

“I will spend the rest of my life in prison and die here,” Navalny wrote on March 22, 2022. “There will be no one to say goodbye to. All birthdays will be celebrated without me. I will never see my grandchildren.”

Navalny was serving a 19-year prison sentence on charges of 'extremism' in a penal colony in the Arctic region. He passed away in February at the age of 47. His death was internationally condemned, with many blaming Putin.

Navalny was arrested in 2021 upon his return to Russia after his stay in a German hospital where he was poisoned with suspected nerve agent.

The book, titled 'Patriot,' is being released by the American publisher Knopf, who also plans a Russian version.
