Afd, a far-right political party in Germany, demands ban on minarets, call to prayer, and headscarves
germany - AfD's candidate for chancellor, Alice Weidel, revealed the party's Islamophobic stance at a recent party congress in Riesa, Germany.
Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany party, AfD, has once again highlighted its Islamophobic stance as the country prepares for early general elections on February 23rd. During a party congress in Riesa, AfD's candidate for chancellor, Alice Weidel, called for a ban on the construction of minarets, the call to prayer, and wearing headscarves in public places, especially in schools.
Some of the promises and demands in AfD's election program include granting German citizenship to children born in Germany with at least one German parent while closing the citizenship path for children of immigrants. Weidel also announced plans to dismantle wind turbines despite renewable sources like wind and solar energy already accounting for 60% of the country's energy consumption.
The party's program also includes lifting sanctions on Russia, enhancing relations with China and the US, reinstating mandatory military service, and advocating for Europe to form its own military force as an alternative to NATO.
