rochester - Dixon Handshaw, who was adopted at a young age, recently discovered his biological family in New York

Dixon Handshaw was born in 1949 in Buffalo, New York, and was adopted at the age of three months. Raised as an only child, Handshaw's adoptive parents had always been honest about his adoption, but he only recently learned about his (half)siblings.

In New York, adopted children have the option to request their original birth certificate in recent years. Handshaw received his birth certificate this year, revealing his biological father to be Robert 'Bud' Romig, who he found out had passed away. 'I was shocked by how much I resemble him,' Handshaw said.

Earlier this month, Handshaw flew to Rochester, New York, where he was warmly welcomed at the airport by a sister and two brothers before reuniting with the rest of his biological family. 'It's my Christmas miracle,' he expressed. 'We clicked instantly, it was beautiful. I always wanted siblings, and now I suddenly have six.' Handshaw shared that he plans to spend a lot of time with his newfound family and get to know them all better.
