denmark - Denmark's postal service company to cease letter delivery in 2026, marking the end of a 400-year-old tradition.
Denmark's PostNord to End Letter Delivery in 2026
Denmark's state-owned postal service company, PostNord, announced that it will no longer distribute letters starting in 2026, citing a 90% decrease in letter sending as the reason. From an annual 1.4 billion letters in the early 2000s, the number dropped to 110 million in 2024. The company states that due to the decline in letter sending following digitalization, the service is no longer profitable. PostNord will begin removing mailboxes from June onwards and it is estimated that around 1,500 out of 4,600 employees will lose their jobs as a result of this decision. The company will shift its focus to parcel delivery in the new era.
