29 People Stuck in English Pub for Three Days After Snowstorm
richmond - A group of 29 people, including 23 hikers and 6 staff members, have been trapped in the Tan Hill Inn in North Yorkshire due to a snowstorm that left a wall of snow blocking their escape route. Despite the situation, the atmosphere in the pub remains positive.
A group of 29 people, including 23 hikers and 6 staff members, have been stuck in the Tan Hill Inn situated in North Yorkshire, England, for three days after a snowstorm hit the area and blocked their way out with a wall of snow over a meter high.
The Tan Hill Inn, known as the highest pub in the UK, is located at an elevation of 528 meters above sea level.
Despite official warnings, 23 hikers, including a 4-year-old child, decided to climb the mountain on Saturday. The pub got snowed under as a result.
Six staff members are also present in the pub. "The staff is working exceptionally hard. We offered to do the dishes, but they wouldn't hear of it," said Paul Wright, a customer, to The Guardian.
Meanwhile, Wright, originally from Australia, even built his first snowman. It is his first visit to the UK with his wife and son.
The atmosphere in the pub seems to be upbeat even after three days. On Monday evening, visitors danced to the Spice Girls. To pass the time, card games were played, movies were watched, and lots of beer was consumed in recent days.
"It's an adventure," said Danny Murray, another customer. "You feel like a little kid again. It's a bit like skipping school." The guests shared how they have all become friends in the meantime, reportedly exchanging many phone numbers.
In 2021, 61 people were stuck in the Tan Hill Inn for three days after attending a performance by an Oasis tribute band. The pub is prepared for such emergencies. "We have food for about a month and beer for two weeks," said manager Nicole to the British newspaper.
The pub also has a generator to ensure continuous electricity supply even in times of crisis.
