Parliament meeting in Catalonia on Thursday

The Spanish Catalan Parliament is meeting Thursday, due to the crisis in the region, according to Spanish media.

Within Catalonia there is much resistance to the plan of the national government, which has yet to be approved by the Spanish senate. Carme Forcadell, chairman of the government's parliament, spoke on a 'coup' and 'an attack on democracy' on Saturday.

The Spanish Senate is expected to vote on the government's planned measures on Friday. Among other things, it wants new elections in Catalonia within six months. In the autonomous region, voting will be announced for self-elected elections, but according to a spokesman for the regional government there can be no question.
